Welcome …

This site contains information about Gregory Harms and his writing, which focuses on history, politics, and philosophy. The site also furnishes supplementary resources beyond mainstream news outlets, as a diversity of sources is of principal importance to comprehension.

Gregory’s blog is here.

The Inquiry is a podcast (of sorts) hosted by Gregory. Topics tend to vary, but they’re typically in the realm of politics, culture, and philosophy. It’s been a lot of fun. Pop in. Say hi. We’d love to hear from you.

IN PRODUCTION: Gregory is hard at work on a comprehensive primer on Enlightenment philosopher Adam Smith. The goal will be two-fold: to introduce the reader to Adam Smith, to show the reader why they should read Smith (okay, three-fold), and separate myth from reality.

Smith has been turned into the patron saint of neoliberal capitalism. This is false. He was a moral philosopher who helped redraw human nature (in a positive way), and his immense Wealth of Nations text is not—in any way—the “capitalist bible.” Smith’s political-economy sits quite comfortably alongside his moral philosophy as presented in his Theory of Moral Sentiments.

Harms’s book will be accessible to any adult reader, will make no assumptions about the knowledge of said reader, and hopefully be light and entertaining. Harms decided the world does not need a scholarly work on Smith from him. (There are many good scholarly works to choose from.) Time for a bit of levity.
